Supplemental Disability Insurance Reinforcer

The Reinforcer Program provides you with two combined policies to maximize your disability benefits:
1. Short Term Disability (STD) designed to extend your sick benefits (RUIA) under Railroad Retirement when your sickness benefit expires after 6 months (less than 10yrs. of service) or 9 months (with more than 10 yrs. of service) to a full year.
2. Long Term Disability (LTD) policy will extend your coverage for 2 more years.

Here is how it works : Your national program that is paid for by CSXT provides 1 year of disability benefits with taxable coverage of $1,600 ($1,200 after tax) per month, in addition to your sick benefits which will pay you $1,140 ($855) per month for a total of $2,055 per month of after tax benefits assuming a 25% tax bracket. The STD Reinforcer begins its coverage when sick benefits ends after 6 months or 9 months (depending upon your years of service) paying you $1,200 per month of non-taxable benefit for the remainder of the benefit year. Engineers can also purchase an additional 2 years of coverage. The LTD plan begins when the STD benefit ends and pays you $2,000 per month of non-taxable benefit which will extend your protection for a total of 3 years.

Summary

Engineers with less than 10 years of service will receive $1,600 ($1,200 after tax) plus $1,140 ($855) = $2,055 for 6 months - then you will receive only $1,200 for the final 6 months unless you purchase the STD, then your benefit will increase to $2,400 per month ($1,200 BLET plan + $1,200 STD plan) for the final 6 months.

Engineers with more than 10 years of service will receive $2,055 for 9 months $1,200 then you will received for 3 months unless you purchase the STD program.

Again, the LTD will begin when the STD ends and will pay $2,000 per month for an additional 2 years.

You may purchase the STD and/or LTD as a package or separately. Check the back of the application for separate pricing.

This program is available to every promoted engineer even if you have been cut-back to trainman. The Reinforcer has 24 hour protection, on or off the job, 7 days a week – with a tax free benefit – whether you are sick or injured - with payroll deduction premium payment. Everyone may enroll without any medical questions during the 60 day open enrollment period. This is a Group plan, not individual coverage, therefore; we must have 40% participation of the Engineers in your subdivision enroll due to no medical underwriting. Everyone is eligible for coverage no matter what health condition you may have if you enroll during the 60 day open enrollment period. (Pre-existing exclusions may apply. See policy for specific details).

•Hurt on or off the job - will give you and your family time to make the correct decisions.
•Program is guaranteed issue if you sign-up during open enrollment period.
•Combined with the national BLET program will provide up to 3 years of benefit period.
•You must have 20 years of service to qualify for long term disability under Railroad Retirement and if you have less than 30 years it will probably not pay you $2,000 per month in after tax dollars.
•This program is priced too low not to buy at any age (check brochure for price).

For less than $10.00 per pay period you can provide your family with needed income that is tax free if you are sick or injured.
